A weekend of wonderful opera in an idyllic country setting with Hatstand Opera
OPERA IN THE ORCHARD grew out of a dream of Robbie Bishop of Wickham Bishops, to share the beauty of his home with others, together with his love of opera as experienced during his working life in Rome. Here, he saw opera enjoyed by a wide cross section of the community. What was also very obvious was that opera was definitely enjoyed by the whole family of several generations. Hence, children up to the age of 18 enter free and so we hope to make the event more accessible to families. With this in mind he set up Opera in the Orchard in 2001 at the grand age of 80years.

Over 25 extracts from all the savoy operas, including popular favourites from The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore, plus some surprises from Iolanthe and Utopia Ltd.

"Golden Moments from Opera" on Sunday
Hilarious scenes and heart-rending arias from the world's greatest operas. Quick costume changes and informal presentation combine with top-notch singing for a great evening of music and laughter. All the best bits of opera you never thought you knew and more ..
Refreshments
Make up your own picnics from the food stalls supplying local produce. BBQ, Leon's vegetarian feast, Caprilatte ice-cream, Lottie and Jakes cupcakes, licensed beer tent selling Farmers Ales from Maldon, wine, tea, coffee will be available before the performance and during the interval.
Camping
Why not come for the whole weekend £10 per pitch per night.
Opera in the Orchard are delighted to be supported by Maldon District Council and listed as one of the main annual events in the Maldon Tourist Information Centre.

A Gypsy Camp takes you back in time Romany style, sited in the orchard, with beautiful views over the paddocks. Cook your meals over an open fire using authentic saucepans, or breakfast can be had in the farm house.(Showers and toilets are in the Farmhouse.)

Maldon Art Trail is proud to be involved in Opera in the Orchard again this year. Come and visit the mini art collective in the chicken shed during the weekend of the Opera.
